CHENNAI: More flights, including those flying to Ethiopia and Kuwait, will be operated from the new integrated terminal in Chennai as part of operational trials.
The flights include Ethiopian Airlines — ET0692/0693 flying to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on May 4, Fits Air- 8D0833/0834 to Bandaranaike International Airport, Sri Lanka on May 5, and Jazeera - J90427/J90428 to Kuwait International Airport on May 7.
The operational trials are part of the migration process, wherein all airport's international operations of existing T-4 and T-3 are being shifted to the new terminal in a calibrated manner.
On Wednesday, Air India operated from/to the new terminal in Chennai- Singapore (Arr & Dep) sector.
“The trial operations went on smoothly with the cooperation of all airport stakeholders while passenger facilities including check-in, immigration, customs, ATRS, baggage handling systems, fixed link bridges and aerobridges were tested for ensuring seamless functionality. The trials will ensure that the terminal meets the highest standards of safety, functionality, and passenger satisfaction and provide world-class services to customers,” the release said.
More such trial operations are expected in the coming days, as the narrow-body aircraft operators will shift operations to the new terminal in the third week of May.
The trials will continue with multiple operators as the terminal stabilises to accommodate more and more operations each passing day, soon after the wide body trial operations will follow, the release added.
The first successful trial operation in the new terminal began on April 25 by US Bangla Airlines, after the terminal was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8.
Following the first trial operation, Indigo Airlines operated three flights, from the new terminal on May 2. Indigo operated on Chennai- Singapore (Arr & Dep) and Chennai- Kuwait (Dep) sectors on the day.
