NIA searches residences of labour union members in Bokaro
Security personnel stand guard as the NIA team conducts a raid the residence of Baccha Singh in Bokaro early on Tuesday morning
BOKARO: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday conducted searches at the residence of Baccha Singh, the central general secretary of the Majdoor Sangathan Samiti (MSS) and two other members of the organisation in Bokaro. The central agency, however, hasn’t officially revealed the reason behind the raids or issued any official statement about it till the time of filing this report.
Sources, however, said the searches were in connection with the organisation’s alleged link with the banned CPI (Maoist). Notably, MSS was banned in 2008 on the ground but the ban was lifted in 2022 following a court order.
Singh works as a labour contractor at the Bokaro Thermal Power Plant of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The searches were also conducted at the houses of MSS members Nageshwar Mahato and Sanjay Turi.
Singh confirmed the NIA raid when contacted but could not say anything about the reasons. He said, “About 5.30 am, a team of NIA officials arrived at my DVC residence in Nisanhat Colony at Bokaro Thermal and conducted a search. They remained there for a few hours and seized two of my mobiles.”
