Haryana: If needed, doctors can be allowed at NEET centres

GURGAON: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to allow a medical specialist inside the campus at the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate examinations which will be held on May 7.
This year, the examinations will pay special attention to the requirements of persons with disabilities, said regional coordinator of NTA in Haryana Rupa Chakraborty on Tuesday.
The candidates will get an extra hour to complete their examinations and those not willing to take the extra time will have to submit a written declaration about their decision. Furthermore, candidates will get an extra 20 minutes this year to take the exam. The time slot decided for the same is 2pm to 5.20pm.
As many as 24 PwD-accessible exam centres have been finalised for 11,000 students in Gurgaon. Royal Public School in Wazirpur will accommodate 864 candidates in the city, while Rotary Public School in Sector 22 will accommodate 148 candidates. All centres have been equipped with CCTV cameras, one in each room, one at the entrance and exit and one in the strong room.
The centres with PwD candidates will have scribes on standby corresponding to the number of candidates. Additionally, they will be allotted seats on the lower most floor at the centre.
The agency is also focussing on gender sensitivity this year, as the Supreme Court is hearing the case of allowing same-sex marriage.
Chakraborty told TOI that the students will be allowed to choose the booth they would want to get frisked outside the exam hall. Also, the agency is deputing guards to ensure that the candidates do not get inappropriately frisked at the centre.
Students must report to their respective centres by 1.30 pm at the latest.
Officials said, as many as one observer and deputy observer is required for over 360 candidates taking the exam. The videographers at the centre will not be allowed to leave the centres before the exam is over.
