Bengaluru: Gang of 3, including cabbie who harassed woman, in custody
High Grounds police have arrested three men, including a driver using a fake name
BENGALURU: Probe into a case of harassment meted out to a woman in a cab helped police bust a gang creating fake vehicle registration certificates and driving licences.
High Grounds police have arrested three men, including a driver using a fake name. The accused are Amith Kumar, Palaksha, and Manjunath C.
A woman from Mumbai had booked a cab from Dickenson Road to Kempegowda International Airport using an aggregator app on April 19. As the car was being driven at high speed, she asked the driver to stop. He allegedly sexually harassed her before dumping her on Sankey Road and speeding away.
The woman approached police and filed a complaint against the driver, whom she identified as Chandrashekar - the name displayed in the app. Police collected details from the aggregator and detained the suspect. His real name was Amith Kumar. Police also seized a fake RC book and DL having Amith's photos and the name of Chandrashekar.
Amith told police the aggregator had blocked him for raising fake trips while he was driving under his real name. So, he decided to attach his car to the same aggregator under a different registration number and owner name, and created fake documents using the name Chandrashekar.
A notice has been issued to the firm to produce a few documents.
