Substandard drugs found during tests
JAIPUR: Samples of 13 drugs were found below standard during quality tests over the last few days. According to the food safety and drug control commissionerate (FSDCC), a regulatory agency for manufacture of drugs, medical devices and cosmetic sales of drugs under the health department, the drugs which failed quality test are anticonvulsants, drugs used in gastroesophageal reflux disease, medicine for decreasing inflammation caused by allergies, medicines to prevent nausea and vomiting symptoms, drugs for malaria treatment and drugs used to treat heartburns, indigestion and upset stomach. Also, a sample of drug used in treatment of flu virus (influenza) such as H1N1 influenza commonly known as swine flu, antiplatelet medicines for preventing heart attack and painkiller are among drugs found not of standard quality.
The health department is collecting random samples from chemist shops to check the quality of the drugs being sold in the market.
