Utkal University slips in NAAC gradation
Bhubaneswar: Utkal University has slipped from A+ to A grade in the latest National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) scores. The university has scored 3.16 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) to secure grade A, while it had got 3.53 CGPA in 2016, when the rankings were last held.
While university authorities are tight-lipped about the scorethe higher education department, though, is planning to file an appeal over the assessment before the council and conduct an internal review of what went wrong that led to the drop in grade.
“There are various reasons which could have led to a drop in scores. One of the major reasons is that appointment of teachers has been sub judice, leading to the delay. We will certainly try to find out what went wrong,” higher education minister Rohit Pujari said.
Ashok Das, vice-chairman of Odisha Higher Education Council and former vice-chancellor of Utkal University, said, “Anything above A is good and there is nothing to be disappointed about. However, this is a warning for the authorities not to get complacent and continue their efforts for improvement.”
