Cyber cons offer work-from-home jobs, cheat 2 in Gurgaon
Two persons have allegedly been cheated by cyber criminals who offered them lucrative work-from-home jobs.
GURGAON: Two persons have allegedly been cheated by cyber criminals who offered them lucrative work-from-home jobs.
A resident of Malibu Towne of Sector 47 was allegedly cheated of Rs 7.9 lakh, while a Sector 66-based woman told cops she lost Rs 2 lakh to cybercrooks.
In the first case, the complainant told police he received a WhatsApp message on April 11 from a person who offered him a part time job with an income of Rs 2,000 daily.
He was told to like and subscribe to channels on Instagram and asked to join a Telegram account named @tidid. He was later asked to make payments of Rs 1,900, 3,000 and to buy credit points of Rs 30,000 and then 80,000 more. Through multiple such transactions, he lost around Rs 7.92 lakh in total, the complainnt said.
From May 1, he started getting calls from different numbers threatening him to add more money to their account. A police officer said, “On May 1, we received the complaint. An FIR was registered under sections 419 (cheats by personation), and 420 (cheating) of the IPC and relevant sections of the IT Act at Cybercrime police station.”
In the other case, the woman was cheated of almost Rs 2 lakh by the fraudsters. The Sector 66 resident told police that she got a call on her WhatsApp number for work-from-home jobs on April 28.
She was also offered a job liking and subscribing YouTube videos. “I was told I will not be charged any additional fees,” she told police, adding that she was then redirected to Telegram groups and asked to register for the job. She was also asked to buy credit points to withdraw her earnings.
“An FIR under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC and relevant sections of IT was registered on May 1 at Cybercrime (south) police station. The matter is under investigation and teams have been formed to nab the culprits,” a senior police officer said.
