Training for patients suffering from filariasis
Kanpur: A one-day training was organized for patients suffering from filariasis under the aegis of district vector borne disease control unit on Tuesday. The event was organized by the health department in association with NGO--Centre for Advocacy and Research (CIFR) and Path.
Chief medical officer Dr Alok Ranjan said, “We have to eliminate misconceptions related to filarial and for this the role of network member is significant. Filaria is a disease caused by mosquito bites. It takes 5-15 years to detect its symptoms. That's why it is necessary for everyone to take medicines to prevent filariasis”.
Nodal officer for communicable diseases, RP Mishra said that Filariasis is such a disease which neither has a permanent cure nor it kills anyone, but as it progresses, physical disability increases. It has been included in the category of Neglected Tropical Diseases. Prevention is the best way to cure the disease, he said. A person could be safe from this disease by taking the medicine once a year for five consecutive years. "If parasites of filariasis are present in a person who has consumed the medicine, then they become inactive and there is no possibility of getting infected by it", he added.
Trainer Dr Aniket Kumar (Path) trained the filariasis patients for its spread and efficient management and told them about the measures to prevent the spread of filariasis.
