CHENNAI: Police on Monday solved a burglary case reported at a house in Porur where 70 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth 30 lakh and 3.5 lakh in cash had gone missing. The stolen valuables have been recovered, and the burglar has been sent to jail.
Police said Jayaseelan, of Udaya Nagar near Porur, works as an advisor at a pharmaceutical firm. A few days ago, he went on a pilgrimage to Tiruchendur with his family. When he came home on Sunday, he found the door lock broken and the cupboard and safe damaged.
Based on Jayaseelan's complaint, the SRMC-Porur police registered a case. With the help of CCTV camera footage, they tracked the suspect - Surya, 26, of Villupuram.
Police said Surya was involved in other burglaries in Porur and Mangadu police limits. He was in Puzhal prison and detained under the Goondas Act. He came out on bail only recently, said an investigation officer.
