JAIPUR: Four passengers, including three university students and a 27-year-old businessman, died while two others were injured when the car they were travelling in crashed into a median curb on Ring Road under Shivdaspura police station area, on the outskirts of Jaipur, early Tuesday.
The six were travelling from Ajmer when the speeding car careened off and hit the dividing median curb, from where one road leads to Kanota while another goes to Tonk Road, around 2.30am. Such was the impact of the crash that the vehicle was reduced to a mangled mass of crushed metal. The car's engine spilled out on the road and much of its front was torn apart.
The deafening noise alerted people in nearby eateries who informed cops.
Police said the severity of the accident indicated excessive speed as the possible cause of the fatal crash. "The entire car was twisted out of shape and the street littered with broken pieces of glass and engine parts. The victims died without regaining consciousness in the hospital," said an officer.
The deceased were identified as Dhanusha (23), Arya (24) and Anshika (24) - students of a private university in Tonk district - and businessman Rajesh Singh (27), a resident of Niwaru Road, who was behind the wheel, Shivdaspura SHO Om Prakash Matwa said. Two men accompanying them were hospitalised with injuries. "We have identified the women based on primary information and are waiting for their families to confirm," said the SHO. Dhanusha is believed to be from Kerala, Arya from UP, while Anshika's native place couldn't be corroborated.
