Lucknow: Former chief minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday criticized the BJP’s double-engine government for “derailing the development of the state capital by sabotaging projects initiated by his government”.
Yadav said that projects like Lucknow Metro, Ekana Stadium, and Gomti Riverfront, launched by his government, took the city to new heights.
Addressing a press conference at Gomti Riverfront, Yadav said the BJP government failed to expand metro service and said that had it been running throughout the city, it would have made Lucknow cleaner and eased traffic congestion. Yadav emphasized the significance of Gomti Riverfront in connecting old and new Lucknow.
“The government has only completed work on a stretch of 900m in the riverfront project. Had they completed the entire project, people of the city would have been able to live in a clean and safe environment. You can see the filth,” said Yadav, pointing towards the Gomti. “The government does not care about the convenience of the people,” he said.
“Today, an IPL match is being organised at Ekana Stadium, another achievement of the SP government. The stadium has given much-needed attention to the city,” Yadav said.
Citing law and order situation, corruption and skyrocketing inflation, he appealed to the people of the state to support the SP in civic body elections.
