Coimbatore: Workers on Monday celebrated May Day by distributing sweets, hoisting flags and bursting crackers in the city.
Trade unions organised street corner meetings to create awareness about the unity of workers.
The announcement from the state government of withdrawing Factories (Amendment) Act 2023, came as another reason to rejoice for the workers on the day.
Hundreds of workers took part in a rally organised by CITU and AITUC in the city. The rally, flagged off at Chinthamani Junction near Vadakovai, passed through DB Road at RS Puram and culminated near RS Puram Burial Ground, where a public meeting was organised.
Coimbatore MP P R Natarajan took part in the meeting, which saw participation of various trade union leaders, including M Arumugam, state secretary of AITUC, and C Badmanaban, Coimbatore district CITU secretary.
