Surat: Anti-corruption sleuths nabbed on Monday a stenographer of the
Income Tax department for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500 from a complainant at the Income Tax Bhavan in Adajan. Tejvir Genda Singh, a class III officer, was arrested in his office.
The accused had demanded Rs 5,000 to process an online application for refund of Rs 17,750 paid as TDS. The accused, after requests, had agreed to accept Rs 2,500.
The complainant had by mistake paid Rs 17,750 as TDS and wanted a refund. He applied online on April 5 but his application was not processed. The accused had asked the complainant to come with the money to his office. tnn
