IPL 2023: Fight breaks out between fans during Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match | WATCH

Published

Cricket fandom can bring out the best in people, and apparently, also the worst as was witnessed during Saturday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) when a violent fight broke out between two groups of fans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the national capital.

A video of the incident, which is going viral on social media, showed a brawl between two groups of fans, reportedly during the DC vs SRH match.

Visuals of the incidents shows some fans holding the DC flag as they kick, punch and throw each other to the ground in the viral video.

However, the reason behind the fight is not known yet.

Regarding the match itself, Delhi Capitals continued their abysmal run during this year’s edition of the T20 league as the Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Hyderabad—who’ve had a mixed bag so far—trumped David Warner’s DC by 9 runs in a close encounter.

Despite an enthralling all-round performance from Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh who picked up four wickets, including that of swashbuckling English batter Harry Brook, and then smashed six sixes on his way to an entertaining 39-ball 63 during the DC chase. However, the Capitals fell short by 9 runs despite Marsh’s heroics.

Earlier, batting first, SRH posted a mammoth 197/6 in their allotted 20 overs on the back of a 36-ball 67 from Abhishek Sharma and a blazing 53 run knock during the death overs from South African wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen.

During the chase, DC lost skipper David Warner for a duck in the very first over of their innings, courtesy a beautiful inswinger from Bhuvneshwar Kumar but England keeper-batter Philip Salt, who smashed a 35-ball 59, and Mitchell Marsh kept DC in the chase with some brazen power hitting.

However, SRH managed to pull things back after the duo were dismissed and despite Axar Patel’s 14-ball 29, managed to restrict DC to 188/6 in 20 overs.

The SC directed Delhi Police to provide an adequate assessment of threat perception and provide security to the gold medalist minor girl. The Top Court further asked Delhi Police to file an affidavit mentioning steps implemented to provide security to the minor girl and listed the matter for May 5.

On Thursday, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President, PT Usha slammed the wrestlers protesting on the streets. She also criticised the wrestlers for not waiting for the final report of a committee formed by Union Sports Minister Anukar Thakur to probe the matter.
