Malikayya Guttedar and Nitin Venkayya Guttedar
BENGALURU: All appears fair in elections as dynast-politicians are not only invoking their lineage but also fighting their own ilk. At least three segments — Afazalpur in Kalaburagi, Sorab in Shivamogga and Ballari City — have members of the same family contesting against each other.
While Bangarappa brothers — Madhu and Kumar — will face-off for the fifth time in 20 years in Sorab, Afzalpur is seeing incumbent MLA Mallikayya Guttedar face a challenge from his brother Nitin who is contesting as an independent. In Ballari City, mining baron G Janardhana Reddy’s wife Aruna Lakshmi is taking on her brother-inlaw G Somasekhara Reddy.
