Sensex and Nifty ended higher ahead of the US Fed Reserve's interest rate decision due tomorrow. The indices were led by banking, financial, auto and IT stocks. Sensex rose 242 points and ended at 61,355, while Nifty surged 83 points and settled at 18,147.
Gainers and losers of the day
Tech Mahindra, NTPC, Tata Steel, Maruti and Infosys were the top gainers, rising over 2%. Power Grid, L&T, Axis Bank and Titan also closed with gains.
On the other hand, the losers were - Sun Pharma, UltraTech Cement, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors and Kotak Bank.
Stocks in the news today
Shares of Adani Green closed 3% higher after the company posted over a four-fold rise in its consolidated net profit for the March quarter. IDFC First Bank closed 3.6% higher after Q4 results.
Sectorally, Nifty Metal advanced 1.42%, and Nifty IT surged 1.14%. Nifty Auto and Nifty Financial also closed higher. In the broader market, Nifty Midcap100 rose 0.97%, and Smallcap100 gained 0.69%.
Global Markets
Asian equities fluctuated today ahead of losses on Wall Street and this week's interest rate decision. Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.10%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index surged 0.20%.
All-in-all Indian indices continued their upward momentum and were fuelled by Q4 earnings and favourable domestic macroeconomic data.
