Ponni Sugars(Erode)(down 6.75%), Triveni Engineering & Industries(down 2.97%), Simbhaoli Sugars(down 2.33%), AVADHSUGAR(down 1.43%), BAJAJHIND(down 1.37%), Dalmia Bharat Sugar & Industries(down 1.18%), Uttam Sugar Mills(down 1.10%), Sakthi Sugars(down 1.05%), Ugar Sugar Works(down 0.89%) and Rajshree Sugars & Chemicals(down 0.87%) were among the top losers of the day.
The NSE Nifty50 index ended 82.65 points up at 18147.65, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed up 242.27 points at 61354.71.
Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(up 3.33%), Tech Mahindra(up 2.91%), HDFC LIFE INSURANCE(up 2.78%), Hindalco Industries(up 2.3%), Tata Steel(up 2.18%), Maruti Suzuki(up 2.18%), NTPC(up 2.09%), TATA CONSUMER PRODUCTS(up 2.06%), Infosys(up 1.97%) and JSW Steel(up 1.74%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.
On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp(down 2.45%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(down 1.48%), UltraTech Cement(down 1.32%), Bharti Airtel(down 1.14%), Tata Motors(down 0.97%), Britannia Industries(down 0.93%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 0.87%), State Bank of India(down 0.52%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprises(down 0.51%) and Bajaj Finance(down 0.49%) closed in the red.

The takeover battle for Care Hospitals has landed up in the Bombay High Court with Max Healthcare Institute filing a suit against private equity firm TPG after the Care owner spurned Max’s bid in favour of an offer by Blackstone, the world’s largest PE fund, that was about 15-20% higher, said people with knowledge of the matter.
