The Pune city police, during a patrol duty in the Aundh area, have arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a police officer, the police said.
The police have identified the accused as Yashwant Ramesh Dhuri, 30, a resident of Kalewadi. The police confirmed that Dhuri worked as a delivery boy and apparently wore a police uniform to impress his friends.
According to the police, a patrol team of police sub-inspector Nileshkumar Mahadik saw Dhuri in police uniform and wearing chappals at the bridge across Ram Nadi river around 1.30 pm on April 30. The officers questioned him as his movements were found to be suspicious and he allegedly lied to them that he was with the police department.
Police havaldar Shrikant Waghawale filed the first information report (FIR) in the case at the Chaturshringi station on Monday.
Dhuri was arrested under sections 170, 171 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
