BENGALURU: The helicopter carrying Congress's Karnataka unit president DK Shivakumar made an emergency landing at the HAL airport on Tuesday afternoon after a kite struck the cockpit glass of the chopper.
The incident took place when Shivakumar was en route to a public meeting at Mulbagal in Kolar district.
The chopper flew from Jakkur airport in Bengaluru but was hit by a kite, sources close to Shivakumar told PTI.
During the crash, the helicopter's glass shattered into pieces, prompting an emergency landing at the HAL airport.
The aircraft was carrying Shivakumar, the pilot, and a journalist from a Kannada news channel who was interviewing him.
“While on our way to Mulbagal, our helicopter met with an accident, in which my fellow passengers were injured. Thanks to the wishes of all Kannadigas, I am safe, and I thank the pilot for his quick response in making an emergency landing. Travelling to Mulbagal by road now,” Shivakumar tweeted.
