COIMBATORE: The east all-woman police on Friday arrested two men, who are notorious rowdies, for raping a college student.
Police identified the duo as J Rajesh, 22 and P Raveendran, 22, of Lakshmi Garden at Kondayampalayam in Coimbatore.
The 20-year-old girl is a student of a college in Coimbatore city, police sources said. “Her parents are separated and not ready to support her studies. When they refused to give her money to pay college fees, she urged a friend to help her. The friend introduced her to Rajesh and Raveendran. Last Sunday, the duo met her and forcibly took her to a lodge at Saravanampatti on a motorcycle. They raped her several times till Tuesday and also threatened her with dire consequences if she complain about them,” a police officer said.
However, the girl lodged a police complaint the next day. Police registered a case against the duo under sections 366, 342, 376, 506 (ii) and read with 114 of the Indian Penal Code.
When police tried to catch them on Thursday, the men tried to escape, fell off a building and sustained leg fractures. They were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and remanded in judicial custody on Friday.
“Raveendran is facing a murder case and was a friend of Gokul, who was hacked to death by a gang in February. Rajesh is facing three assault cases,” the officer added.
