This evening, after concluding his third public speech of the day in the state in Beluru in Hassan district, the Prime Minister flew into the historic city while seated atop a specially made vehicle.
Aimed at maximizing the party’s fortunes in the politically significant Mysuru district, which is the home turf of opposition leader Siddaramaiah, the bitter critic of the PM, the BJP top brass held the show for over an hour amidst the multitude of people.
Though PM Modi did not address the people, BJP tried to convey the message loud and clear as the Prime Minister was accompanied by former minister KS Eshwarappa from Shivamogga and SA Ramadas from Mysuru, the two sitting MLAs who were replaced by the party.
PM Modi received a rousing welcome in the heritage city with party activists from across the district joining the PM’s roadshow starting from the Gun House junction abutting the Mysuru Palace. However, many were disappointed as the distance of the roadshow was cut due to paucity of time. A major part of the 3km roadshow moved in the Dasara procession route.
As per the original schedule, the roadshow was supposed to start at 5.40pm. But it was delayed by one hour.
This is the PM’s third visit to this region since the International Day of Yoga in June 2022. In March, he visited Mandya to inaugurate the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.
While it was a political event, Mysuru Palace added allure to it as the palace was illuminated at 7pm given that it was Sunday when the roadshow was passing through the area. The local leadership used the occasion to give a cultural touch to the show.
Twenty-five folk artist teams drawn from different parts of the Old Mysuru region gave various performances during the roadshow. Nadaswaram, Bharatanatyam, saxophone, Dollu Kunita, Nagari Kunita, Puja Kunita, Somana Kunita, Pattada Kunita, Veerabhadra Kunita, Kamsale were performed, electrifying the atmosphere. The men and women in their traditional attires made the roadshow more colourful.
PM Modi waved at the crowd as they cheered him. The roadshow came to an end near Abul Kalam Azad junction. Before concluding his roadshow, he walked for around 300 meters.
BJP local leadership also used the roadshow to highlight Mysuru’s legacy, culture, and uniqueness and spread the word about Brand Mysuru at the global level.
Ramadas said that a bouquet of 18 products that have the Mysuru GI tag was gifted to Modi.
Mysuru silk, Mysuru Peta, Mysuru Pak, Mysuru Jasmine, Mysuru Sandal Oil, Mysuru Betel leaves, Mysuru Sandalwood, and Mysuru incense sticks were gifted to Modi, he added.
Our dream is to facilitate a global platform for Mysuru products under the Prime Minister’s ‘Atma Nirbhar’ scheme. Our dream is global branding for these products which are unique in nature and named after Mysuru representing its legacy and history, he said.
A sea of Modi lovers had gathered on both sides of the road to greet him. Many arrived at the designated spots early in the day. A huge number of tourists also took glimpses of the PM’s roadshow.
