Nagpur: A ghastly accident on Samruddhi Mahamarg near Ganeshpur-Pandharkawda in Wardha district in the early hours of Saturday claimed the life of in-charge of Panchkula police station for women in Haryana, Neha Chauhan, 40.
Three more cops, including the police van driver, and an accused too were injured in the accident which occurred at 7am. The police vehicle had rammed into a container truck from behind and was dragged on for some distance.
It’s learnt, Chauhan was seated beside the driver. She sustained grievous head injuries which led to her death. The driver of the container truck stopped the vehicle after the impact, suspecting tyre burst. Later, one of the passers-by alerted police on 112.
The injured cops, identified as assistant sub-inspector Sukhwinder Singh (40), constable Bittu Jagda and police vehicle driver Sunny Kumar Raj Kumar (28), are recuperating at Datta Meghe hospital in Sawangi. Police had also recovered the service revolver of the officer and 15 cartridges.
The injured accused, Vaidyanath Shinde, had been arrested by the Haryana cops on Friday in Parbhani for posting obscene content and cheating a woman, a source said. After having procured transit remand of Shinde from a Parbhani court, the cops were returning to Haryana via Nagpur.
