Gujarat officer caught napping at CM Bhupendra Patel’s event, suspended

A senior official of the Gujarat government was suspended by higher authorities after he was reportedly caught napping at an event attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, reports said.
According to reports, Jigar Patel, who is posted as the Chief Officer of Bhuj municipality in Gujarat’s Kutch district, was placed under suspension with immediate effect by the state’s Urban Development and Urban Housing Department on Saturday evening after he was allegedly caught dozing off on security cameras at a function in Bhuj.
A senior official said on Sunday that security camera footage showed Jigar Patel sleeping at the chief minister’s event, following which disciplinary action was initiated against him for “gross negligence.”
He said that Patel was suspended with immediate effect for “gross negligence and lack of devotion to duty” under Rule 5(1)(a) of Gujarat Civil Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1971”, adding that disciplinary action was taken against him due to his misconduct and lapse.
CM Bhupendra Patel attended a function in Gujarat’s Bhuj and distributed documents of ownership (property cards) of residential housing for the rehabilitation of around 14,000 earthquake-affected people in Kutch.
In a tweet, Bhupendra Patel said: “After the (2001) earthquake, rehabilitation of the affected people was done on a very large scale. Hon’ble Shri Narendrabhai Modi also had a unique love for Kutch. Under his leadership and guidance, Kutch has come out of many difficulties and has become a pioneer in the development path.”
Meanwhile, the Bhupendra Patel-led BJP government in Gujarat completed its 100 days in office at the end of last month.
At an event held at Gujarat secretariat to mark the occasion, CM Patel had said his government will fulfill all the promises it made and work towards making Gujarat more prosperous in the near future.
Bhupendra Patel said that Gujarat has become India’s growth engine thanks to the leadership and efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Renovation row: Delhi BJP to stage indefinite dharna outside CM Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence to protest irregularities

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch an indefinite sit-in protest in front of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence over the alleged “irregularities” in the government bungalow’s renovation as claimed by the saffron party.
In a statement on Sunday, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said the right-wing party will hold a dharna outside Kejriwal’s official 6, Flagstaff Road residence in the Civil Lines area. Sachdeva claimed that the Kejriwal-led AAP dispensation is involved in several scams, including this one involving renovation work at the official CM residence.
Sachdeva said that the sit-in protest will be led by the saffron party’s workers from Keshav Puram and Chandni Chowk districts under the leadership of BJP MP Dr Harsh Vardhan, adding that BJP state general secretary Harsh Malhotra will coordinate the demonstration.
The BJP had recently claimed that Arvind Kejriwal had spent Rs 45 crore from the public exchequer on the “beautification” of his official residence.
On Saturday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena ought a detailed report from the Chief Secretary after taking cognizance of the claims of irregularities by the BJP.
As per reports, L-G Saxena has asked the AAP government in Delhi to submit all records pertaining to the renovation work at CM Kejriwal’s 6, Flagstaff Road residence and directed the Chief Secretary to examine the said records and submit a report within 15 days.
Earlier, an India Today report citing documents obtained from sources claimed that the said papers mentioned that a total of Rs 44.78 crores against a sanctioned amount of Rs 43.70 crores was spent on “addition/alternation” of Arvind Kejriwal’s government accommodation on 6, Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines.
It said the said amount was spent in six trenches between September 9, 2020 to June, 2022.
Citing the documents, the report claimed that the expenditure included Rs 11.30 crores on interior decoration, Rs 6.02 crores on stone and marble flooring, Rs one crore on interior consultancy, Rs 2.58 crores on electrical fittings and appliances, Rs 2.85 crores on fire fighting system, Rs 1.41 crores on wardrobe and accessories fitting, and Rs 1.1 crore on kitchen appliances.
The documents further revealed that Rs Rs 8.11 crores out of the sanctioned Rs 9.99 crores was spent on the Chief Minister’s camp office at his official residence.

Delhi cop caught taking bribe by CBI on colleague’s behalf, arrested

A Delhi policeman was arrested after being caught by the sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while allegedly taking a bribe on behalf of a senior colleague, reports said on Sunday.
According to CBI officials, the accused cop, identified as Trilochan Dutt, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Delhi Police, was arrested for allegedly taking bribe from a man in Delhi’s Inderpur area.
ASI Dutt was allegedly collecting the bribe on behalf of his senior, an Inspector of the Delhi Police currently posted at Rajouri Garden police station, the officials said.
Giving details, a CBI official said that the central probe agency had registered a case against Inspector Narendra Kumar Pahalwan of the Special Staff, Rajouri Garden police station, and unidentified others for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant, Parmeet Singh, a resident of JJ Colony in Inderpur.
The official said that the complainant had approached the CBI claiming that Delhi Police had caught some people involved in illegal betting in a jhuggi in front of his house and the accused Inspector, Narendra Pahalwan, had threatened to book him under the Arms Act and level MCOCA charges, if Parmeet Singh did not pay an amount of Rs 50,000 as bribe prepare and agreement to transfer the jhuggi be in his name.
The official said that after necessary verification with the help of an independent witness and a concealed recorder, the CBI initiated a trap operation to catch the accused red-handed.
He said that during the trap operation, ASI Dutt was allegedly caught taking the bribe on behalf of Inspector Pahalwan and was arrested by CBI sleuths.
The official further said that the probe agency also conducted searches on the residences of both accused policemen, adding that further investigation in the case is underway and more evidence against the duo is being collected.

Caught-on-cam: Maharashtra’s notorious machete-wielding Koyta Gang attacks medical shop staff in viral video | WATCH

A shocking video of one of Maharashtra’s koyta gangs, who are notorious for their brazen and violent attacks on citizens, has emerged showing a group of six machete-wielding criminals attacking the staff of a medical store in the state’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area on Saturday.
According to reports, a group of 5-6 men stormed a medical shop in Pimpri-Chinchwad, vandalized the place, and attacked the store staff with machetes.
The entire incident was caught on the store’s security cameras and the video has gone viral on social media platforms, sparking outrage from users who are demanding strict action against the thugs.
The video from the security camera footage, that has been widely viewed and shared online, shows the hooligans, armed with machetes, entering a medical store and attacking a staff member with the sharp-edged weapon.
The criminals then vandalize the place while also threatening another staff member when he tries to intervene.
The men enter the medical shop carrying machetes and attack a staff member, the video shows.
As per reports, the koyta gang also vandalized some vehicles in nearby Kamgar Nagar area before storming the pharmacy.
The menace of ‘koyta gangs’—named as such by locals because they wield machetes or koytas—has seen an upsurge in Maharashtra in the recent past with officials saying that at least 100 incidents of attacks by machete-wielding thugs have been reported in the state over the last four months.
Attacks by koyta gangs have also been reported from Pune with groups of men brandishing machetes brazenly attacking the public.
The attacks by koyta gangs terrorizing citizens recently caused an uproar in the Maharashtra assembly with the opposition accusing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena-BJP government of inaction against the rabid criminals.
In January, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued instructions to the Maharashtra Police to initiate strict action against koyta gangs.
