KALYAN: The Government Railway Police (GRP) with the Railway Crime branch team arrested two members of the "Fatka gang” for targeting passengers travelling on the footboard of long-distance trains between Kalyan and Titwala railway stations.
They used to attack people with sticks in order to steal their phones.
The investigator said the arrested accused identified as Abbas Sayed (19) and Humayun Ali Jafari (19).
Both are the residents of Iranipada area near Kalyan.
The officials said for the last few days there had been an increase in mobile phone theft crimes in the local as well as long-distance Mail Express train between Kalyan Station and Titwala railway stations.
The team for four days laid a trap in the Ambivali railway station area and late Saturday night team successfully managed to nab the duo while their three gang members managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.
With the arrest of two "Fatka gang" members, we were able to solve two cases of mobile theft by them. Once other members who fled are apprehended, we expect to solve many more cases, senior police inspector Mukesh Dhage of the Kalyan GRP said.
