Kanpur: A major fire broke out in an eatery in the Babupurwa police station area of the city during the wee hours of Saturday.
Several fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the blaze under control. Fire department sources said that the fire broke out in Krishna Bengali Bhojnalaya at Canal Road Tiraha in Transport Nagar. The accident happened at 3:37 in the morning, causing panic in the area as the fire spread with rising flames.
Locals alerted the police and the fire department. Fire tenders from Meerpur and Kidwai Nagar fire stations were requisitioned.
One Shiv Sundar Mishra (50), his son Uma Shankar Mishra, who was sleeping on the terrace of the eatery, was evacuated safely.
According to the police, the fire was confined to the furniture and other goods including eatables of the eatery. The cause of the fire is being ascertained.
