Kanpur: A 13-year-old minor boy drowned in the Ganga river while two others were rescued by local boatmen in the Jajmau area on Friday. The deceased, identified as Laiq, was a resident of Ikhlaque nagar in Jajmau, police said.
Laiq, along with three friends Altamas (11), Alfaiz (9), Pradeep (15) and Laiq (13) had gone to take bath in the Ganga. During bathing, three friends started drowning. Seeing the minors drowning, the local boatmen jumped into the river and tried to save them. During this, two minor boys were saved by them. But one Laiq died of drowning.
Laiq was taken out of the river Ganga in no time.
On getting the information, the police reached the spot.
The police took Laiq to the nearby private hospital. From there he was taken to Kanshiram Trauma Center located in Ramadevi, the doctors however declared Laiq dead.
Jajmau police station in-charge Rambabu Singh said that four minor boys living in Ikhlaque Nagar started drowning while taking a bath. Then three among them started drowning. Seeing this, the boatmen jumped into the river and rescued the two. “One among them identified as Laiq died due to drowning. The family members of the deceased were informed. The body has been sent for postmortem,” said Singh further.
