COIMBATORE: The East all-women police in Coimbatore city arrested two youths, who are notorious rowdies, for raping an Anglo-Indian woman who is pursuing an undergraduate course in a private college here.
The arrested youths have been identified J Rajesh alias German Rajesh, 22, and P Raveendran, 22. Both hail from Lakshmi Garden at Kondayampalayam in Coimbatore district.
They had raped the girl for three days in a lodge at Saravanampatti, the police said.
Police said Raveendran was facing a murder case. He was close friend of Gokul, 24, of Lakshmi Garden who was hacked to death in full public view by a gang in February 2023. Rajesh was facing three assault cases.
The rape survivor, aged 20 years, lodged a complaint with the all-women police on April 26. She hailed from the Nilgiris district.
Her parents had separated. She demanded money from her mother to pay her college fee but her mother refused to provide the amount and asked her to get it from her father. Her father also denied her money.
She informed her situation to her friend who was also studying in the same educational institution. Her friend took her to his friends Raveendran and Rajesh for help. On April 23, the duo visited her place of stay near Saravanampatti and forcibly took her to a lodge on a motorcycle. The duo raped her till April 25 night. They threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone.
The police registered a case against the duo under sections 366, 342, 376, 506 (ii) and read with 114 of the Indian Penal Code.
The duo tried to escape from police and fell off a building on Thursday. They suffered fractures on their legs. They were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). They were discharged and remanded in judicial custody on Friday evening.
