Mysuru: Candidates of three major political parties are leaving no stone unturned to win the confidence of the voters in the Vokkaliga-dominated Chamaraja constituency in Mysuru. Dotted with heritage buildings and educational institutions, the constituency has also many slums.
During the media interaction hosted by the Mysuru District Journalists Association, all three candidates chanted the development
mantra, renovation of heritage structures and providing homes for the homeless as their priorities to emerge victorious.
Sitting MLA and BJP candidate L Nagendra said a lot of development activities were taken up in the last five years with roads being laid not only in main areas but also in those areas which never had good roads. He said that he had got grants from the state government for the renovation of Maharani’s College and other infrastructure projects. He also added that new roads were laid in all 19 wards apart from providing drinking water and streetlights.
Nagendra said that his two main projects were reconstruction of Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Building but were stalled owing to legal wrangles. He mentioned that about 35,000 houses would be constructed on land measuring 28 acres in Hanchya and Uttanahalli once legal hindrances were cleared.
Congress candidate K Harish Gowda said many people in the constituency were yet to receive houses and people in areas like Hebbal, Bebikeri, Kailashpuram still lived in huts. Gowda also mentioned that he would come out with programmes to solve the unemployment issue which has been causing problems for youth. He said that he had worked hard during the pandemic by helping distressed families.
JD(S) candidate H K Ramesh said that people of the constituency had supported the party by electing 10 corporators out of the 19 wards and expressed confidence of emerging victorious. Adding that the people of the constituency were still being denied Cauvery water, Ramesh said that his first priority would be to provide surface water to the constituency.
