Opposing the NCERT’s decision to remove Darwin’s revolution theory from Class 10th syllabus, science teachers in West Bengal’s Kolkata on April 29 said that the sudden introduction of the theory in the higher classes will create issues for the students in understanding it better. Advocating for the student’s basic knowledge, the teachers stressed on the importance of the chapter and its connection with the science theories in upcoming chapters. “We are against this change as this will hinder the children from learning about basic knowledge. This chapter further leads to other theories due to which it is important to not skip this chapter. So we are against it. Children will not have basic knowledge,” a teacher said. “This is not good. If the students will know about this theory in class 10th itself, then this will help them to understand better in the future. It will difficult for them to understand the theory directly in the higher classes,” another teacher said. NCERT recently decided to remove Darwin’s revolution theory from Class 10th syllabus with an aim to lessen the burden on the students.
