Ludhiana: A group of miscreants, including two women, barged into a house in Satjot Nagar at Dhandra road and robbed a 55-year-old woman of cash, gold and other valuable items.
The women accused impersonating as healthcare workers rang the doorbell and confirmed from the victim if all the family members were vaccinated. One of the women asked for a glass of water. As soon as the victim turned around to get water, all the accused barged into the house, overpowered her and robbed her. The victim alleged that the accused were hired by a rival of the family for the possession of the house.
When the victim — Ranjit Kaur — raised an alarm, the locals gathered there and nabbed six accused, who were identified as Raminder Singh of Ayali Kalan village, Harpreet Singh of Daad village, Gurdeep Singh of Parkash Colony, Hardeep Kaur of Azad Nagar, Paramjit Kaur of Ladda Kothi of Sangrur and Soni Bharat of Sachra Mohalla of Phagwara. Other accused — Barinderjit Singh of Lalton Kalan village, Pritpal Singh of Kheri Jhameri village, Gurmeet Kaur, Satnam Singh, Surinder Saggu and their 20 unidentified accomplices — managed to flee.
Ranjit Kaur said two women posing as health department staffers rang the doorbell and inquired if all members of the family are vaccinated against Covid-19. Meanwhile, one of the women asked her for a glass of water. As soon as she turned around, all the accused barged in the house and overpowered her. The accused robbed Rs 5 lakh in cash, five laptops, five LCD TV screens, 300g gold jewelry and other valuables from the house. The accused loaded the robbed commodities in a pickup auto and fled.
A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered.
