Hubballi: All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi will campaign for his party candidates in various parts of Karnataka from May 2 to 7.
This time, the party is aiming to win from Hubballi-Dharwad East, Basavan Bagewadi and Jamakhandi constituencies. To reach out to voters, Owaisi will be taking part in rallies, padyatras, and meetings.
In the 2018 polls, AIMIM had backed JD(S) and not fielded any candidates. But now the party has fielded candidates in three constituencies and is targeting to win all three. AIMIM had held alliance talks with JD(S), but the negotiations failed.
According to sources close to the matter, JD(S) wanted to contest from Hubballi-Dharwad East, but AIMIM insisted on fighting from the seat. AIMIM is also said to have refused to field its candidates in Vijaypura and Belagavi as other parties had fielded Muslim candidates there, sources added.
AIMIM Dharwad unit president Najeer Honyal said preparations to welcome Owaisi are on. “Party corporators from Hyderabad and other places have arrived in Hubballi, and are guiding us. MLAs, MPs and other office-bearers of the party will come to Hubballi soon to ensure Asaduddin Owaisi’s tour is a success,” he said.
“The confidence of party workers and leaders has doubled with the entry of Owaisi in the state camapign,” he added.
According to AIMIM sources, Owaisi will have two public meetings and a padyatra in Hubballi. He will reach the city from Delhi on May 2 and have a group meeting and later attend a public meeting in the evening. On May 3, he will travel to Jamakhandi and have discussions with community heads and others, and later attend public meetings.
On May 4, Owaisi will travel to Basavan Bagewadi and attend various meetings. On May 5 he will travel and attend various programmes in Basavan Bagewadi. On May 6, he will attend a public meeting in Hubballi. On the next day, Owaisi will hold a padyatra in the city.
