JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday said that it has unearthed disproportionate assets worth several crores during searches at properties of a deputy registrar of cooperative societies in Jhalawar, and his wife posted as tehsildar in the district.
The anti-graft agency said it has registered a case of disproportionate assets after receiving a complaint against deputy registrar Rai Singh Mojawat, also holding an additional charge of managing director Bhumi Vikas Board (Land Development Board).
The agency constituted 11 different teams that conducted simultaneous searches at the properties of Mojawat and his wife Asmita Singh, posted as tehsildar Jhalrapatan in Jhalawar.
Searches were conducted in the Jhalawar, Udaipur and Jaipur properties of the couple, during which the ACB claimed to have detected documents of several properties. The agency also said that the couple had invested in residential and commercial properties which is suspected to be several times above their known sources of income.
The ACB said that the couple also owns a farmhouse in Jhalawar and different benami properties suspected to be registered in the name of their relatives.
“The market rate of these properties runs into several crores, which the couple accumulated while being in services,” an official said, adding that Rs 44,000 cash, 315 gram, Rs 12 lakh in bank accounts.
The officials said that the couple were posted in the district for a very long time and an additional SP of the intelligence division of the agency verified the complaint against Mojawat.
“A primary investigation is underway into the case. The couple’s bank accounts are being examined. They could not have accumulated so much money from their known sources of income,” the official said, adding that the ACB has taken into its custody a trove of documents.
“Most of these documents pertain to properties and the couple’s investments over the years. We also suspect benami properties being owned by the family,” the official added.
The agency said that further investigation is underway into the case.
