Karnataka polls 2023: BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal calls Sonia Gandhi ‘vishkanya’, Congress demands his sacking

KOPPAL/BENGALURU : A day after AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge called PM Narendra Modi a “poisonous snake” only to issue a clarification after BJP trained its guns on him, it was the turn of senior BJP MLA and former Union minister Basanagouda Patil Yatnal toliken former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi to a ‘vishkanya’.
“The entire world appreciates Modi. But the Congress chief compares him to a venomous snake. Is Sonia Gandhi, whom you (Congress functionaries) go dancing about in your party, a Vishkanya,” Yatnal said at a public meeting on Thursday night.
Further, he accused Sonia, “who ruined the country”, of working as an agent of China and Pakistan. Yatnal is seeking re-election from Vijayapura in the assembly elections.
His comments instantly drew sharp response from Congress, which sought the legislator’s expulsion.

Congress general secretary (organisati on) KC Venugopal said in a tweet that abusing Congress has become a constant feature during every election, and said Sonia has led her life with utmost dignity and grace. AICC gene ral secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh, in a tweet, said BJP, in desperation and despair, has resorted to namecalling and urged the PM to expel Yatnal from the party, besides the the part y tendering an apology to Sonia.
