Panaji: Caranzalem-resident Atharva Vijay Naik has been declared the Goa state topper with a score of 99.8 percentile at the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main, results for which were declared on Saturday by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The student of Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School, Cujira, said that he is now focused on answering the JEE Advance and aims to bag a seat at one of the seven old Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).
“I want to pursue the stream of computer science. I did extremely well in physics and chemistry at the JEE thanks to mentorship of my teachers, especially school director sir Vyankatesh Prabhudesai," said Atharva, whose father Vijay is a doctor and mother Rakhi is a homemaker.
At least nine other students from Goa were known to have scores above 99 percentile when the results were declared on Saturday -
Niraj Naik (99.67), Shreyas Chavan (99.61), Adeep Kuncolienkar (99.51), Palash Pai Angle (99.51), Kris Pereira (99.47), Mukund Kakodkar (99.44), Himanshini Desai (99.42), Atharva Naik Desai (99.31) and M P Ashish Bhat (99.09). All are students of Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School.
Two other Goa students Shikhar Chandra (98.97) and Arav Dwivedi (98.95) also had scores close to 99 percentile.
“Atharva Naik has scored 100 percentile in physics and chemistry. Even though mathematics was a tough and lengthy paper for all the sessions, six out of our top 10 students have scored higher percentile in maths than physics and chemistry. With NTA declaring Atharva Vijay Naik as JEE main 2023 overall topper of Goa, all the final state toppers of JEE Main belong to our institute ever since NTA has taken over in 2019,” said Prabhudesai, director of Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary school.
