PANAJI: Crime branch of Goa police on Friday busted a gang involved in an alleged IPL betting racket in the state and seized cash and electronic items worth Rs 25 lakh.
Superintendent of police (SP) crime branch Nidhin Valsan said that they have arrested 14 persons, all in the age group of 19 to 45 and residents of
Chhattisgarh and
Bihar.
Valsan said that the gang was operating from Porvorim. Following a tip-off, Goa police conducted a raid and caught the accused red handed while accepting bets on the IPL cricket match played between Rajasthan Royal and
Chennai Super Kings.
“We have seized from their possession cash of Rs 38,000, 47 mobile phones, one laptop, three LED TVs, three net routers, three set-top boxes, one router modem and other gaming electrical accessories all worth over Rs 25 lakh,” the SP said.
