Bhubaneswar: The department of social security and empowerment of persons with disabilities has asked the district collectors of the state to ensure continuation of the rehabilitation and therapeutic services for the children with intellectual disabilities even during the summer vacation. The department has issued instructions to the collectors in this regard.
The move was made after the department had received complaints from the districts that several vehicles carrying such children to and from their houses and the therapy centres to avail the therapeutic services are not being allowed to ply in view of the advisory issued regarding the heatwave situation.
Therapeutic and rehabilitation services to children with intellectual disabilities are being provided by the government at different centres. Such special children need therapeutic intervention on a regular basis in order to have sustainable impact on their disabilities, department director Bratati Harichandan wrote to the district collectors.
She mentioned in the letter that vehicles carrying such children to and from their home and therapy centres are being detained on the way and not allowed to ply on the basis of the heatwave advisory issued by the government. Such move hampers the purpose of providing the required therapeutic services to the special children, Harichandan stated.
The department director requested the district collectors to ensure that the vehicles, carrying such children are allowed to run to ensure regular therapeutic intervention.
