HUBBALLI: The battle to win Hubballi-Dharwad Central seat is prestigious for both
BJP and Congress. The high-pitch campaign has taken a new turn with supporters writing letters in blood stating that their leader will win in H-D Central.
Six-time MLA Jagadish Shettar, who has been winning from the seat since 1994, joined Congress after he was denied a ticket by the BJP. Now, the BJP leadership has employed a dedicated team and involved its star campaigners such as Lingayat strongman
BS Yediyurappa to ensure Shettar’s defeat.
Yediyurappa, during a meeting with Lingayat leaders in Hubballi on Tuesday, vowed that “Lingayats will teach a lesson to Shettar for betraying BJP, and he will be defeated.” He added that “I will write in blood that Shettar will be defeated.”
This statement by Yediyurappa has left Shettar’s followers and Congress workers fuming.
On Thursday, Congress worker Manjunath Yentruvi challenged the former CM Yediyurappa and he wrote a letter in his blood claiming that Shettar will win the election. He also wrote that Congress would come to power. The pic of his letter has gone viral.
Manjunath, district Youth Congress general secretary and a Lingayat leader told TOI, “I am upset with the way Yediyurappa challenged to defeat Shettar. So, I wrote a letter in my blood. Now, many are also planning to write letters in their blood to prove that Shettar will win.”
