Thanks to the incursion of moisture from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, Pune and its surrounding regions woke up to dark clouds Friday morning. The maximum temperature on the day is likely to be 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature would be 21 degrees Celsius, the weather office has said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for light to medium rain in many parts of the city and advised caution against thunder and lightning. Some parts of the city, like Baner, reported light rain early on Friday morning. The precipitation has slightly cooled down the intense heat of the day, bringing some relief to Pune.
On Thursday, rural parts of the district like Manchar, Junnar and other areas received rainfall. Since Thursday, clouds have been forming in the region due to the wind discontinuity caused by high temperatures coupled with convective activities. At present, a western disturbance (moisture-carrying winds from the Mediterranean Sea) is active in upper regions of the air, officials said.
Also, cyclonic winds are present over central and eastern parts of the country. Thanks to the incursion of moisture-laden winds, all these activities have resulted in cloud formation, which the IMD says could lead to rainfall with thunder and lightning in the city and its surrounding regions.
