PRAYAGRAJ: Ahead of the fast-approaching urban local body polls, Baiskati village in Kaushambi district is in news for all wrong reasons.
The village is home to highest number of history sheeters (24 to be precise) in the district.
With dates of urban local body polls inching closer, cops have stepped up efforts to create conducive atmosphere for free and fair elections. As part of it, joint teams of Karari, Manjhanpur police and personnel of ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police) cordoned off the village from all directions early Thursday and conducted a foot march.
SP (Kaushambi) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava told TOI: “Out of 24 listed history sheeters, cops found that three of them had died while 11 were in jails, four were absconding and six were at their homes (either on bail or physically unfit).”
The early morning (5.30am) checking left the villagers puzzled. When the senior cops interacted with villagers and apprised them about the motive behind the act, residents heaved a sigh of relief.
Senior official said the motive was to create a feeling of security among villagers so that they could not be intimated by unwanted elements. Senior police officials interacted with villagers and apprised them about election code of conduct and also conducted physical verification of polling centres and checked facilities there.
