Edu dept plans bilingual calendars for school students
Ranchi: A calendar containing academic details, state government schemes and other information will be distributed among students and parents in May.
The Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) will distribute it under Samagra Siksha Abhiyan for the first time in May, it said.
The calendar will be bilingual, with one version in Hindi and the other in a tribal language of the region. A total of 27,63,073 calendars will be distributed. Among them, 1,49,990 will be in Hindi and Mundari, 1,32,940 in Santhali and Hindi, 77,422 in Ho and Hindi and 53,890 in Khariya language with Hindi.
The director of the JEPC, Kiran Pasi, said, “The initiative to bind students and parents to the school through the calendar is being adopted for the first time. The calendar will also include some state-specific and scheme-specific information. It will be published in both Hindi and tribal languages of the region to make it simpler for parents to comprehend the information printed.
Rajni Lakra, a parent, said, “We cannot read or write in Hindi and hence, hardly know about the school activities. But I will be able to understand the information provided in the calendar as it will be in regional language.”
Nasim Ahmed, the principal of Urdu Middle School, Kanke said, “The initiative is commendable because parents will be informed of activities such as parent-teacher meets, sports and other events, holidays, and summer vacation. It will also connect the parents of the children enrolled in the respective school.”
