BENGALURU: A total of 362 Indians including 70 people from
Karnataka who were stuck in wartorn Sudan were evacuated by a special mission by the Indian government and landed safely in Bengaluru Airport on Friday evening.
Sources with Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) said a Saudia flight carrying the 362 Indians touched down in Bengaluru at 4.30pm. The airport authorities on the ground welcomed the repatriated passengers including women and children and the elderly who were agonisingly stuck in the African nation after civil war broke out in recent week.
They were holed up in the country before help arrived in the form of the Indian authorities.
70 people from KarnatakaEarlier, the rescued Indians were brought to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia by the Indian authorities and from there a Boeing aircraft of Saudia airlines flew them directly to Bengaluru. Out of the 362, there are 70 Karnataka natives who were also joyous to return home safely and land in Bengaluru.
Health officials at KIA carried out preliminary medical checks for the returnees. While the 70 are expected to head home to their native districts in Karnataka and remain in home quarantine for a few days, the rest are expected to take connecting flights to other parts of the county including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, airport sources added.
