Gurgaon: MCG on Wednesday registered two police complaints against a city-based jewellery store and another private store for putting up illegal advertisements on signage boards. The complaint has been filed according to provisions of the Haryana Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1989.
According to the assessment made by the civic body, the jewellery store will have to pay Rs 10 lakh, while the other store has been asked to pay Rs 15.96 lakh as an advertisement fee.
The signage boards where the advertisements were put up were on Civil Lines and Sadar Bazar road. "There are clear directions from the Supreme Court prohibiting the display of advertisements on the signage boards. These boards are installed to guide commuters to their destinations and putting up advertisements on the boards defeats the purpose," said MCG commissioner PC Meena.
"We will now recover the advertisement fee for which the advertising department has made an assessment," said MCG spokesperson SS Rohilla.
