Hello! I’m Shelby Dermer, and I’ve covered high school sports for The Enquirer since 2017.

Greater Cincinnati’s passion for high school sports knows no bounds and the area’s prep talent is always top-tier. The Enquirer’s Winter All-Stars for Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, also known as our all-city lists, honors that by giving fans the chance to deep-dive into the area’s best athletes across multiple sports, from basketball to gymnastics and archery.

Our high school sports staff spent weeks combing through statistics, awards pages and other resources to honor over 1,100 coaches and athletes from the winter sports season.

The selection process is not perfect or an exact science, which is what makes it unique. While compiling pages of data over the last month-plus, we had to make tough decisions on athletes based on a variety of factors. It’s a unique operation for the reporters because we get to catch up on some athletes who we may have missed or didn’t get to see in person from the 140-plus high schools in our coverage area.

Are you a big prep sports fan? Do you have high school athletes in your family who played in the area? Check out The Enquirer's Winter All-Stars here.
