AIZAWL: With the withdrawal of the candidature of the lone independent candidate on Thursday, the last date for pulling out of the poll contest, seventy-three candidates remain in the fray for the election to the 20-member Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) on May 9.
Election officials of south Mizoram's Lawngtlai district said 76 nominees filed the nomination papers, of which two were standby (dummy) candidates for the two Congress candidates and one was an Independent.
The nomination papers of the two dummy candidates were rejected after the bonafide candidates were accepted during a scrutiny on Tuesday and the lone Independent candidate withdrew his nomination.
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the BJP and the Congress will contest all the 20 seats, while the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has fielded 13 candidates.
While 13 seats will witness a four-cornered contest, the remaining seats will see a triangular fight.
