Two killed, 11 injured as bus rams truck on Thoppur-Bhavani Rd

Salem: Two passengers died and 11 others were injured after a private bus rammed a parked truck near Mettur in Salem district on early Wednesday morning. Police said the truck was illegally parked on the spot.
The Karumalaikudal police identified the deceased as P Venkatesan, 45, of Andiyappanur in Tirupathur district, and M Manoharan, 48, of Sengkattur near Mettur.
A police officer said the bus was heading to Salem from Mettur with 25 passengers. “When it neared the Mettur thermal power plant on Thoppur-Bhavani state highway, it rammed a truck parked on the roadside from behind. The bus driver did not notice the parked truck. The deceased died on the spot. The injured were admitted to the Mettur government hospital.”
One of the injured passengers R Vijayakumar, 36, of Semmandapatty near Omalur, was shifted to the Salem government Mohan Kumaramangalam medical college and hospital as his condition deteriorated.
