Since Twitter’s purchase, Elon Musk has made numerous changes to the way the platform works. In one of the highly-reported changes, the CEO tinkered with the Blue subscription and asked people to pay for the verification badge. Reportedly, a ‘new’ change is coming to the micro-blogging platform.
The company CEO has hinted that Twitter may bring back ‘Fleets’ – but in a new avatar. Fleets is an Instagram and Snapchat-like ‘Stories’ feature that enabled users to post primarily text-based stories that disappeared after 24 hours.
Musk engaged in a conversation on Twitter. A user tagged Musk asking him whether the company will bring back features like Periscope and Vine. “Some version of them both is inevitable,” Musk replied.
In the same thread, another user asked whether Musk is also planning to bring Fleets back. To this, the CEO said that “But not in the way it was done last time.”
What are Fleets? Fleets were introduced on Twitter in 2020. It allowed users of the social network to share text, photos, and videos that will be available for 24 hours – just like it happens in the case of Stories on Instagram.
The primary difference between Stories and Fleets was that Stories appear in a horizontal fashion and users have to swipe left/ right to access Stories. In Fleets, users have to swipe up/ down to see posts.
However, the feature was discontinued a year later because it purportedly did not get the anticipated traction. Musk hasn’t revealed what the ‘new’ Fleets may be like, however, some reports suggest that Fleets could be used for advertising.
Twitter verification Recently, Musk was under fire for his decision to remove Legacy Blue ticks from all non-subscribing handles. It was later revealed that Musk paid for verification of some accounts. The social media company also faced an uproar online after blue checkmarks of some people, including the ones who have died, returned to their profiles.
