KOLKATA: Kolkata Police has decided to modernize and secure its own online network—through which real time responses are being taken by the city cops— at no less than Rs 15 crore. Besides Kolkata Police, the directorate of security, Bengal government, will be using the facilities.
According to Lalbazar sources, a fresh tender was floated on Tuesday to buy both software and hardware for this purpose.
Titled “LTE based Mission Critical Communication System,” cops will now buy more than 1150 state-of the-art hybrid Dual Radio Sets, PoC servers, laptops, desktops, fibre optics links (of each 50 mbps speed), application delivery controllers and other allied items.
The newly procured held/mobile/static devices would be used to send/receive live video streaming, messaging, PTT and will support MCPTx (a mobile carrier network-based communication system that connects call centres with on-site staff engaged in police) functionality.
The new system’s dispatch capabilities will include management of user groups and user permissions, as well as management of situations in the field by viewing video feeds, personnel locations and voice communications with the police personnel, said cops.
The system is also expected to provide safe and secure communication channels within the police field forces, divisional control rooms and the main control room that cannot be tampered by unauthorized persons.
Kolkata traffic police too has decided to invest in smart technology for the future in order to fine tune its traffic management in the city.
