NEW DELHI: The weather department has forecast very light to trace-level rain in isolated parts of the city and gusty winds from Thursday onwards with the intensity likely to increase in rain towards Saturday.
On Wednesday, the city saw a slight rise in the daytime temperature that increased by two degrees. However, the maximum temperature remained below normal. The base station, Safdarjung, recorded the maximum temperature as 36.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which was two notches below normal.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was 34.9 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 18.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which was five notches below normal. On Tuesday, Delhi saw 20.4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature. The humidity on Wednesday oscillated between 68% and 30%.
According to the weather department, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the region from Thursday till at least May 2. "Due to an approaching western disturbance, there are chances of cloudiness and drizzle in one or two places from April 27 onwards. The possibility of very light rain to drizzle in isolated areas will be there for the next six days. The sky will remain cloudy, which will keep the maximum temperature down," said an official at the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather department said the maximum and minimum temperatures on Thursday are likely to hover around 37 and 22 degrees Celsius. However, the temperature is expected to drop from Friday onwards and may drop by 3-4 degrees by Sunday.
The city's air quality deteriorated to poor. The air quality index on a scale of 0 to 500 was 210.
