A 22-year-old medical student has died after falling from a tree at a college in Mumbai, police said on Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday night when Dayanand Kale, student of the Poddar Ayurved Medical College located in Worli area, climbed a tree in the premises to pluck mangoes, an official said. Mumbai-Pune Expressway: 6 injured, several vehicles damaged after truck suffers brake failure
Six persons were injured on Thursday in a multiple-vehicle mishap that started when a truck hit a vehicle after its brake failed on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, an official said. The truck hit at least 12 vehicles, leading to six persons suffering injuries, near Khopoli in Raigad district, he said. "Police teams rushed to the site and sent the injured to the hospital. Vehicular traffic towards Mumbai was affected for some time," he said. (PTI)

Man booked for molesting and threatening teenage girl in Thane
A man allegedly molested his sister's teenage female friend when she was asleep at her house in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Thursday. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday and based on the complaint filed by the victim, the police registered a case of molestation against the accused, he said. "The girl, who is around 17-years-old, was sleeping at her home with her family members at night. Due to the rising temperature, they had kept the main door of the house open to let in fresh air. Around 4 am, the accused entered their house and molested the victim by touching her inappropriately," an official of Bhoiwada police station said. When she got up, he threatened her saying that if she revealed it to anyone, she will have to face dire consequences, he said.

Work is on to connect the SantacruzChembur Link Road (SCLR) extension till Vakola Junction on Western Express Highway along Hans Bhugra Road. The MMRDA has opted for a cable-stayed design for the span, which will criss-cross above Vakola flyover and end on the Dahisar-bound carriageway at Vakola signal, as this arm will have sharp bend of 60-70 degree. This arm requires a longer span because it is higher than the existing Vakola flyover. The contractor expects to complete the work by December. The other two arms of SCLR, that connect to BandraKurla Complex and LBS Marg, have already been opened for vehicular traffic.

The city crime branch has busted a call centre racket and arrested two operators who had opened a digital marketing company through which they lured foreign investors to become members of their company under pretext of providing tips on which shares and stocks to trade in and thus cheated people from the UAE and the UK.
