GURGAON: A private school in the city had circulated a survey link online among the parents of their students, proposing to conduct hybrid classes in view of increasing cases of flu and Covid in the school and the city. Nevertheless, parents have voted against the proposal and have urged authorities to continue physical classes for the time being.
Only 20%of parents who voted on the poll agreed with the school’s proposal tohold hybrid classes.
The school’s principal told TOI that the school clinic was filled with kids coming in with complaints of cough and cold, after which she took the decision to send out a proposal to the parents.
“Several students in grade 12 were missing out on the classes and feared falling behind on the syllabus. If we moved the classes to a hybrid mode, where students who have been infected can take classes from home, it would have been safer,” she said.
“People still are laid back and do not seem to be taking any precautions. Masks have disappeared from the general practice,” she also added.
The school has, however, decided to follow the covid protocols inside the school.
Pradeep Rawat, a member of Parents’ Association in the city told TOI, “The parents are sceptical about the end-product of online classes. During the second wave of the Covid, parents found it difficult to indulge their children in learning from home. Online classes are not always an effective medium as the teachers cannot provide one-on-one attention to individual students.”
“We, however, are concerned about rising cases in the city. We have circulated a survey link among the parents. So far 122 out of 180 have responded in favour of hybrid mode of education. The poll will run for another five days,” he added.
